Historical Canton,NY and a wierd building I can see from my apartment complex using my nikon l820 cam
today I decided to explore some urban decay/urban ruins from a distance there is a walking trail over there they made into that area a nice little park Has some maps and such to go with it.
By what I know of this area it says there on that map Logging and Lumbering comes in handy having a good cam with a telephoto lens huh? I am a person interested in history and urban decay,urban/or rural relics from not so distant past. I know on our property where our housing complex is where I live you can see so much over there with the naked eye and I was always wondering what this particular building is. we do have some old relics on our property two old gristmill grindstones.
So I have been on the net seeking some info as to what this particular area of canton must of been like before canton village housing authority had it developed into the housing project where my mom and bro live up on 4th in a 2 bedroom and Myself in a efficiency on 2nd. This area looks like it was heavily milled at one time farming and logging, IT would be interesting to learn of this village's past.I am and was a former resident almost all my life of Ogdensburg and moved when things went down hill there cause of urban decay over to this nice little village i go back home too for visits family etc so maybe will be hauling the camera there too . I think Northern New York offers some very interesting subjects for study of urban decay as well as modern ruins and excellent photography opportunities for folks who love to photograph old things.
for now this building will remain a mystery as to what it was used for I finally got to see it up close thanks to Nikon L820 bridge cam similar but more affordable of not ready for DSLRs yet . there are alot of old farms around old psychiatric buildings in Ogdensburg, as well as older cemetaries this and that.. Makes a good area not bragging cause i grew up here and live here but I just want others to not ignore our own area in search for more famous places. Probably a excellent area too for paranormal type exploration and what not.
anyhow here is one last different view of that old structure .It's kind of neat I love it right up my alley abandon, historical , ruin ,and creepy looking sitting there. It's story is yet to be found as I will search the net and learn more about that area in paritcular. I may do an arcylic painting of this as It would fit in with some old gristmill paintings i done some years ago it seems to sit to far back in to be that cause where would the paddle wheels have either way maybe it was where those two big grindstones originated from that are in our backyard literally. imagine having historical ruins in your own backyard how cool heh.
